The adventure then continues south of the border to North Dakota, visiting the Icelandic State park and some of the communities with a significant shared history in the Icelandic migration to the prairies.
The tour returns to Canada with stops at the International Peace Gardens and Spirit Sands, Manitoba’s desert, enroute to Riding Mountain National Park to witness the dramatic scenery and wildlife, including buffalo, moose, bears and elk.
Time is set aside for relaxing by the lake in the heart of the park before making the drive through Manitoba’s Interlake region to Gimli, the cradle of the Icelandic community of North America. Visitors will enjoy a free day to explore and bask in the town’s charm and then return to Winnipeg, having experienced the deep Icelandic roots in Manitoba’s heritage.
