Whew, Manitoba is a whirlwind of activity in the summer and there is no slowing down! This weekend, if you are not already planning to get festive at Folklorama, celebrate in Chinatown, or wander through Winkler, here are some more fun things to do:
PLANETARIUM
Daily shows | The Manitoba Museum, Winnipeg
Does NASA’s amazing exploration of Mars have you excited about the final frontier and interested in learning more about our solar system? Visit the Planetarium to become an astronomical explorer and embark on a voyage of discovery.
ANNIE AT RAINBOW STAGE
August 9 to 31 | Kildonan Park, Winnipeg
The sun’ll be out tomorrow, so get your tickets to see Annie at Rainbow Stage! With its hopeful message and unwavering belief in a better tomorrow, Annie is one of Broadway’s biggest musical hits.
GLITTERATI FAIRY TALE FANTASY
August 10 | Winnipeg Art Gallery, Winnipeg
A 18+ forever after party featuring the fairest moves of the RWB dancers and a sneak peek at costumes from their newest show The Princess & The Goblin on the fashion runway. Plus, tour the WAG’s Fairytales, Monsters and the Genetic Imagination show featuring invented creatures and imaginary worlds.
MOVIES IN THE PARK
August 10 | Assiniboine Park, Winnipeg
Bring a chair or spread out a blanket in front of the Lyric Theatre and get ready to watch free, family-favourite blockbusters on an outdoor screen. Tonight’s features are The Incredibles (7:00 p.m.) and Pirates of the Caribbean (9:15 p.m.).
WASAGAMING WEEKEND
August 10 to 12 | Riding Mountain National Park
This is one of Clear Lake’s biggest weekends of the summer with events for the whole family including paddle boat races, sandcastle contest, puppet show, and a parade. Oh, and back by popular demand… the Garbage Bag Fashion Show!
UFO HIKE
August 11 | Falcon Creek, Whiteshell Provincial Park
Listen to one of the weirdest stories in the park as you hike with a park interpreter through the self guiding trail at Falcon Creek. Hikes start at 7, 8 and 9 p.m. Don’t forget to wear sturdy hiking shoes. Please bring a flashlight for the 9 p.m. hike.
ELVIS FEST
August 11 | Gimli, Manitoba
Shake, rattle and roll yourself out to Gimli for the Manitoba Elvis Fest. This year’s line up includes a “hunka hunka” award-winning tribute artists from across the country as well as some well known local talents.
It looks like clear skies and warm weather this weekend, so have fun with whatever you plan to do. Enjoy!
