It's Manitoba Time! Weekend planner for December 21 to 23

It’s Christmastime again, which means it’s the perfect time to gather up your friends and family and enjoy fun winter activities together. This festive weekend, if you don’t already plan to take a flight of fancy at the ballet, watch the world’s best ads at the WAG, or drive through a Winter Wonderland, here are some more fun things to do:

Skating at Assiniboine Park

Open daily | Assiniboine Park
The first day of winter is here, and the Assiniboine Park Conservancy has opened the Riley Family Duck Pond for skating! Bring your skates, but don’t forget your toboggan; the family style toboggan run (just south of the Duck Pond), is also open. Be sure to warm up inside the Qualico Family Centre, or stop by the Park Café for a quick bite after your outdoor adventure.

Outdoor trails at Birds Hill

Open daily | Birds Hill Park
If you are looking to get outside this weekend, Birds Hill Park features a large network of skiing, snowshoeing, horseback riding and snowmobiling trails for you to enjoy! Trailheads are at the riding stable restaurant and at the Chickadee Trail parking lot. Plus, a few of the trails have wood stoves and firewood on them.

Island of Lights

Open nightly | Portage la Prairie
Drive through the brightest spot in Portage la Prairie and be dazzled by the Island of Lights! Manitoba’s longest running drive through light show runs nightly from 6 to 10 p.m. until Jan 7. As a winner of numerous provincial and national tourism awards, this exciting show is a must see!

Asessippi Christmas Kids Day

Dec 22 | Asessippi Ski Area & Resort, Inglis
Santa is making his way out to the slopes this weekend! The Asessippi ski area has the big guy visiting on Saturday from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m.

Rossburn Family Santa Day

Dec 23 | Gone Scrappin’ In Bloom, Rossburn
Head out to this unique heritage 1939 general store in Rossburn to bake cookies and enjoy stories with Mrs. Claus, and go on a sleigh ride. Afterwards, trek over to Rossburn Town Hall to watch The Polar Express and other Christmas movies and meet Santa! For more information, call 204.859.3334 or visit their Facebook event.

Art in December

Various locations across Manitoba
Manitoba’s art scene doesn’t slow down for the holiday season! Indulge your senses by checking out one of these exciting exhibits.

Have a fantastic weekend, everyone. And Merry Christmas from all of us at Travel Manitoba!
