It's Manitoba Time! Weekend planner for February 1 to 3

We have snow, we have sun and February is going to bring plenty of fun! Here’s our guide to some of the best things to do this weekend.

The River Trail

Jan to Feb | The Forks
Take in the picturesque sights of Winnipeg as you’ve never seen them before, from the frozen Red River! Venture out to The Forks to enjoy a variety of outdoor winter activities on the Guinness World Record-holding longest naturally frozen skating trail in the world.

New Music Festival

Jan 28 to Feb 2 | Various locations around Winnipeg
Celebrate the music of one of the world’s greatest composers, Steve Reich, at the Winnipeg Symphony Orchestra’s New Music Festival. The festival is a musical portrait of a man whose contributions have defined minimalism as we know it.

Winter Festival

Jan 31 to Feb 2 | Brandon
Thirteen entertaining pavilions await you at the 10th annual Lieutenant Governor’s Winter Festival in Brandon. The festival is free and a great opportunity for you and your family to explore some of the many cultures from around the world.

Snowshoe expedition

Feb 2 | Foresters Footsteps Self-guiding Trail, Whiteshell Provincial Park
Trek through the snowy boreal forest with the Park Interpreter and discover how the forest is managed for a sustainable future as you snowshoe through natural areas and plantations of pine. Snowshoes are provided. Be sure to dress warmly for this 2 km hike. Walk is from 1:00 to 3:00 p.m. For more information, email Sloan Cathcart.

World Wetlands Day / Groundhog Day

Feb 2 | Oak Hammock Marsh
Will we get an early spring this year? Catch Manitoba Merv give his prediction at sunrise. Also, find out how wetlands work and what makes them a perfect habitat for waterfowl at special wetland demonstrations throughout the day.

Snowmobile derby

Feb 2 | Shellmouth and Notre-Dame-de-Lourdes
Start your engines! Both Shellmouth and Notre-dame-de-lourdes are hosting a snowmobile derby this weekend. For more information, phone 204-773-6800 (Shellmouth) and 204-248-2510 (Notre-dame-de-lourdes).

Gone with the Wind at MTC

Jan 10 to Feb 2 | Royal Manitoba Theatre Centre
Catch the epic romance Gone with the Wind at MTC this winter and watch as southern belle Scarlett O’Hara’s pampered life of parties and petticoats is threatened by the devastation of the American Civil War. Don’t forget your tissues.

The Dishwashers at PTE

Jan 24 to Feb 10 | Prairie Theatre Exchange
Enjoy an evening out at the PTE’s new play The Dishwashers – a comedy by Morris Panych that will make you laugh as you watch, and walk out a little changed in your outlook.

Living in Space

Science Gallery, Manitoba Museum
Now is the perfect time to experience a day in the life of an astronaut, since Canadian astronaut Chris Hadfield is currently in space at the International Space Station. The Science Gallery’s newest exhibit Living in Space represents a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity for space enthusiasts of all ages.

Art in February

Various locations across Manitoba
Spend an afternoon or evening enjoying some of Manitoba’s diverse arts offerings. Here are a handful of great exhibitions you don’t want to miss this month.

Hope your weekend is fabulous!
