It's Manitoba Time! Weekend planner for February 8 to 10

It’s time to start planning another weekend of fun in Manitoba. Here’s our guide to some of the best things to do.

Art in February

Various locations across Manitoba
Spend an afternoon or evening enjoying some of Manitoba’s diverse arts offerings. Here’s a handful of great exhibits you don’t want to miss this month. The hotly anticipated People and Music exhibit at Gurevich Fine Art opens Friday.

Vivaldi’s The Four Seasons at WSO

Feb 9 | Centennial Concert Hall, Winnipeg
This year’s Beyond the Score® concert features Vivaldi’s The Four Seasons in an acclaimed multi-media presentation created by the Chicago Symphony Orchestra that brings a major classical work to both new and veteran listeners using live theatre, a screen presentation, actors and narrator followed by a complete performance of the work.

Carman Blizzard Fest

Feb 9 | Carman
Enjoy a weekend of wintry fun at the Carman Blizzard Fest – a FREE event for the whole family. This event is jam-packed with fun activities, like dog sled rides, hay rides, ice cube bowling, jam pail curling, street hockey and snow golf to name a few. There will also be dog sled races run by Ma-Mow-We-Tak.

Ice Fest

Feb 9 | Winkler
Chase away the winter blues at the 2nd annual Ice Fest in venues around Winkler. There are art shows (one featuring the work of Mike Grandmaison), crafts, cultural showcases, live music, dancing, and an outdoor movie followed by fireworks to finish the day in fine form.

Cream Puff Day

Feb 10 | New Iceland Heritage Museum, Gimli
Enjoy a delicious day in Gimli celebrating Bolludagur (Cream Puff Day)! Listen to stories about the history of this day while you feast on fresh Bollur – Icelandic cream puffs complete with jam, whipped cream and chocolate! Kids can also make their own Bolluvöndur –  a special wand used by children in Iceland on Bolludagur. Event starts at 3 p.m.

The River Trail

Jan to Feb | The Forks
Take in the picturesque sights of Winnipeg as you’ve never seen them before, from the frozen Red River! Venture out to The Forks to enjoy a variety of outdoor winter activities on the Guinness World Record-holding longest naturally frozen skating trail in the world.

The Ironman Curling Bonspiel is on all weekend long! You can still register a team at Ironman Curling.

Ed’s Garage at MTC

Feb 7 to Mar 2 | Royal Manitoba Theatre Centre
Take your seat and get ready to enjoy the “wry, witty, and wonderfully funny” Ed’s Garage at the Royal Manitoba Theatre Centre (MTC)! Folks flock to Ed’s Garage for oil changes and sage advice. Everything’s running like a well-oiled machine until a psychotherapist sets up shop next door, throwing a wrench into the whole business.

The Dishwashers at PTE

Jan 24 to Feb 10 | Prairie Theatre Exchange
Enjoy an evening out at the PTE’s new play The Dishwashers – a comedy by Morris Panych that will make you laugh as you watch, and walk out a little changed in your outlook.

Living in Space

Science Gallery, Manitoba Museum
Now is the perfect time to experience a day in the life of an astronaut, since Canadian astronaut Chris Hadfield is currently in space at the International Space Station. The Science Gallery’s newest exhibit Living in Space represents a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity for space enthusiasts of all ages.

Have a wonderful weekend!

This is a wonderful idea for staff, friends and family. The hardest thing will be choosing which events to attend! Thanks for this, Ruth.
