It's Manitoba Time! Weekend planner for February 22 to 24

Boy, February might be a short month, but it has a lot of fun packed into it! Here’s our guide to some of the best things to do this weekend.

Festival du Voyageur

Feb 15 to 24 | Voyageur park, Winnipeg
Put on your felt toque, wrap a wool sash around your waist, and celebrate our French-Canadian history at Festival du Voyageur, Western Canada’s largest winter festival. Before you go, make sure you dress it up right.

Woodstock at WSO

Feb 22 to 24 | Centennial Concert Hall, Winnipeg
With an all-star lineup including former Triumph guitarist Rik Emmett, the WSO presents a concert devoted to Woodstock, one of the most momentous events in rock history, featuring material by Crosby, Stills & Nash, The Who, Janis Joplin, Joe Cocker, Santana, Jimi Hendrix, and more.

An Evening With Those Guys

Feb 22 | P.W. Enns Centennial Concert Hall, Winkler
Enjoy the a cappella sounds of Winnipeg’s Those Guys as they perform musical classics. Tickets available through the Concert Hall.

Ice fishing derby

Feb 23 | Lake of the Prairies
Cast your line for a chance at a big one! Compete with other anglers for more than $20,000 in prizes at The 4th annual Lake Of The Prairies Ice Fishing Derby. The ice is groomed and holes are pre-drilled for you.

Art & Soul

Feb 23 | Winnipeg Art Gallery
Celebrate the most memorable moments, iconic personalities, and scandalous events of the past century at Art & Soul: One Hundred in the Winnipeg Art Gallery.

Monster Jam

Feb 23 to 24 | MTS Centre
Rev yourself up for Monster Jam, the  jaw-dropping freestyle and racing competition featuring the largest and most advanced automotive machines in the world. Find your tickets through Ticketmaster.

The Penelopiad at MTC

Feb 21 to Mar 9 | Royal Manitoba Theatre Centre
Enjoy a “brilliant tour de force” contemporary twist on a classic myth in Margaret Atwood’s The Penelopiad at MTC. With her husband gone off to war, Penelope is left to run the kingdom while dealing with a bratty teenager and a raft of aggressive suitors.

Horseback riding

Open daily | Birds Hill Park
Mosey on over to Birds Hill Park Ranch to enjoy a trail ride in and around the park while breathing in the crisp air and viewing the spectacular scenery. Don’t forget to bring your camera! You may see deer, owls and various other wildlife.

Hudson at the zoo

Open daily | Assiniboine Park Zoo
Say hello to Hudson, the Zoo’s new 15-month old polar bear! Hudson is the first identified inhabitant for the Zoo’s upcoming Journey to Churchill exhibit set to open in 2014. While at the Zoo, check out the new Polar Playground, Arctic Treasures Gift Shop and Tundra Grill.

The River Trail

Jan to Feb | The Forks
Take in the picturesque sights of Winnipeg as you’ve never seen them before, from the frozen Red River! Venture out to The Forks to enjoy a variety of outdoor winter activities on the world’s longest naturally frozen skating trail.

Art exhibits

Various locations across Manitoba
Spend an afternoon or evening enjoying some of Manitoba’s diverse arts offerings. Here’s a handful of great exhibits you don’t want to miss this month.

Enjoy your weekend!
