It's Manitoba Time! Weekend planner for March 8 to 10, 2013

Enchanting ballet, Broadway fun, ice fishing and Festival Manipogo – those are just a few of the fun things happening in Manitoba this weekend.

The Sleeping Beauty at RWB

Mar 6 to 10 | Centennial Concert Hall, Winnipeg
Journey to an enchanted kingdom where good triumphs over evil through a single kiss at the Royal Winnipeg Ballet’s The Sleeping Beauty.

Festival Manipogo

Mar 8 to 10 | Sandpiper Park, Saint-Laurent
Celebrate St. Laurent’s historical and cultural traditions at The Manipogo Festival! Named after Lake Manitoba’s famous serpentine monster, this event includes theatre, music and dance performances, storytelling, films, and exhibits and presentations of historical fishing techniques.

Forbidden Broadway

Mar 8 to 9 | Western Manitoba Centennial Auditorium, Brandon
Broadway’s greatest musical legends hit up Brandon for a hilarious, loving, and endlessly entertaining tribute to some of the theatre’s greatest stars and songwriters. This brilliant parody with barbed satire has been performing to sold out crowds all over the world.

Lac du Bonnet Ice Fishing Derby

Mar 9 | Lac du Bonnet
Cast your line for a chance at a big one! Compete with other anglers for more than $25,000 in prizes at the Lac du Bonnet Ice Fishing Derby. The derby runs from 10:30 a.m. to 1:00 p.m.

Winter Open House

Mar 9 | Alfred Hole Goose Sanctuary, Whiteshell Provincial Park
Celebrate winter in the Whiteshell and enjoy free hot dogs and hot chocolate while you and your family take in special activities. For more information, read the media release, email Brock Houndle or call 204-369-3157.

Now Boarding tour at aviation museum

Mar 10 | Western Canada Aviation Museum
You are invited to the original TCA headquarters to view its first airplane (a Lockheed Electra 10A), board the historic Vickers Viscount, and experience a trip back in time. Throughout March, the museum is hosting “ Now Boarding” guided tours every Sunday, Tuesday and Thursday at 2 p.m.

Best International GLBTTQ Commercials

Mar 10 | Gas Station Arts Centre
This is your chance to view some interesting commercials not usually seen on Canadian TV. There are over 100 ads from all over the world… all utilizing the gay community in sexy, funny or interesting ways.

The Penelopiad at MTC

Feb 21 to Mar 9 | Royal Manitoba Theatre Centre
Enjoy a “brilliant tour de force” contemporary twist on a classic myth in Margaret Atwood’s The Penelopiad at MTC. With her husband gone off to war, Penelope is left to run the kingdom while dealing with a bratty teenager and a raft of aggressive suitors.

The Mark of Zorro at MTYP

Feb 28 to Mar 9 | Manitoba Theatre for Young People
Watch the 20th century’s most notorious hero hit the stage in The Mark of Zorro – an edge-of-your-seat escapade. Lock swords with Zorro as the masked champion ricochets from one sticky situation to another in a world where adventure is the name and justice is the game!

The art scene in March

Various locations across Manitoba
Spend an afternoon or evening enjoying some of Manitoba’s diverse arts offerings. Here’s a handful of great exhibits you don’t want to miss this month.
