Look who’s turning 100! The Winnipeg Art Gallery is celebrating their centennial and they want you to come to the party. Through 2012 and 2013, Canada’s oldest civic art gallery is hosting an unparalleled series of exhibitions, programs, and events promoting the power of art in life.
One of the most interesting exhibitions is The WAG Century, an inter-active, evolving exhibition that explores the gallery’s complex and exciting history. Through a display of catalogues, ephemera, and photographs, you can revisit defining exhibitions from Inuit carving to artifacts from the tomb of Tutankhamun to the works of Vincent Van Gogh.
“The WAG Century represents the first time the Gallery has mounted an exhibition focusing on its own history.” says Andrew Kear, Curator of Canadian Historical Art. “It is an exhibition that not only unveils the past but, just as importantly, helps build the momentum that propels the Winnipeg Art Gallery forward into its second century.”
The WAG Century is on now and runs until September 2013.
