Manitoba’s unique buildings and culturally diverse citizens took centre stage last week for our Instagram challenge. It was lovely to see so many posts feature the friendly and proud faces who make our cultural gatherings some of the best in the world. And the love you shared for our old structures from a tipi to a hot dog joint to a schoolhouse reminded us of how diverse our history is.
The three finalists for the 🌎 🍁 Rich Culture and Heritage 🍁 🌎 challenge are…
Angela Balisi (@mavsnaps)
It looks like Angela had a colourful whirlwind of a week checking out many of the exciting pavilions of Folklorama — the world’s largest and longest running multicultural festival.
Karyn posted two Icelandic culture photos that took our breath away. Plus, the caption that went along with her schoolhouse photo was as interesting as the photo was captivating.
Viking invasion. Posting this shot for the @travelmanitoba Rich Culture and Heritage challenge. The Icelandic Festival, Islendingadagurinn, just wrapped up in Gimli. This festival is a huge celebration of Icelandic culture and holds a special place in the hearts of many, including those of us who are descendants of Icelandic settlers.
It's only fitting that the Northern Lights danced above this old Icelandic schoolhouse near Arnes, Manitoba, Canada. My great great grandfather (lang langafi) sold 1 acre of his land for $1.00 so that this school could be built for the Icelandic settlers. The Arnes South school was in operation from 1896-1967 – just a small part of our province's Rich Culture & Heritage! @travelmanitoba
Carol shared an interesting mix of Manitoba’s unique culture last week. She showcased everything from a tipi at Folklorama to a nostalgic nosh in lockport to a deliciously green photo of freshly-preserved pickles.
