Root for our boys in Blue
Aug 29 | 5:00 p.m.
Investors Group Field
Okay, it’s been a very up and down season for the Bombers so far. But you can’t beat a summer evening socializing with friends while watching a thrilling football game at the stadium. This Saturday, the boys in Blue will be taking on the Calgary Stampeders. C’MON BLUE!!!
Get your fill at Ribfest
Aug 29 to 30
Head to the Forks for a finger lickin’ good weekend. The Rotary Club of Winnipeg is having its first RibFest and it’s sure to be a lip smacker. This two-day, mouth-watering event will have BBQ served by SMOKIN’ HAWG BBQ, music by Slip’d Disc, and a beer garden.
Dive into a divine comedy at Sister Act
Aug 13 to Sep 1
Rainbow Stage, Winnipeg
The gloriously funny Broadway musical Sister Act comes to Rainbow Stage this month! Featuring unforgettable original music by eight-time Oscar® winner Alan Menken (The Little Mermaid, Beauty and the Beast), Sister Act tells the story of Deloris Van Cartier, a wannabe diva whose life takes a surprising turn when she witnesses a crime and is hidden by the cops in the last place anyone would think to look—a convent!
Attend a lively street festival
Aug 29 to 30
Become acquainted with Winnipeg’s very own Chinatown at this year’s Chinatown Street Festival. Experience the eye-catching traditional lion dance and be amazed by Chinese Kung Fu. Movies, music and markets round off the weekend. Don’t miss it!
Catch a channel catfish on the Red
Whether the channel catfish is the ugliest fish to inhabit Manitoba waters is certainly a topic of debate. What isn’t up for discussion is their ability to deliver fantastic fishing action, no matter if they are big or small. You can catch these toothless fighters in lots of places in Manitoba, but if there’s one place that offers increased odds, it’s near Lockport on the Red River. Bring the family out for an exciting (and very slimy) outing for the Fishing on the Red Family Program on August 27 and see who can become a master anger.
Laugh your pants off at a Comedy Festival
Aug 27 to 30
Have a laugh this weekend at Winnipeg’s newest comedy festival. Oddblock is a block party style, four-day comedy festival in Winnipeg’s South Osborne neighbourhood. Venues include The Park Theatre, Luxalune Gastropub, Desseo Bistro, Monticchio and Vera Pizzeria. The experience is packed with high-density fun and features comedians from Manitoba and beyond.
Get robbed by Bonnie and Clyde
August 30 | 11:00 a.m.
Departing from Inkster Junction Station
All aboard! Travel back in time to the Wild West and experience a Great Train Robbery on the Prairie Dog Central! Get your tickets to ride the rails and enjoy a fun re-enactment of an old-fashioned train robbery, where bandits on horseback or in vintage automobiles storm the train along the line.
Visit a farmers’ market
Various locations around the province
Feast on freshly produced goodies at your local farmers’ market! This is the perfect time for you to shop for locally-produced foods and discover the real great tastes of Manitoba. Yum! Here’s a list of markets province-wide and Winnipeg-specific.
Road trip through the heartland
Pick a road you’ve never been on and ramble along our rolling farmlands that stretch to the horizon in every direction. There’s a reason the National Geographic listed a tour through Manitoba’s farm country as one of their Drives of a Lifetime.
Be enticed by the relaxing lure of fishing.
It’s no wonder anglers fall hook, line and sinker for our many fishing holes. Trophy size catches are common and locals in every region rightly claim their streams offer some of the best fishing anywhere. With more than 100,000 lakes, casual anglers cook their catch of the day over campfires at prime sites from back-country hideaways to easily accessible roadside parks and the vast shores of Lake Winnipeg and Lake Manitoba.
Unlock the mystery of an escape room
Various dates and locations
You’re locked in a room with 60 minutes to escape or find your objective. What do you do? Don’t worry – there are plenty of clues for you to uncover to help find your way out. Escape rooms are growing in popularity across Canada, and Winnipeg just happens to boast a few of the best. Test your skills at Enigma Escapes‘ Jewel of Zanzibar as you hunt down a mystical gem from a powerful warlord or head to The Real Escape to escape Death Row after you and your friends are wrongfully convicted. Whatever you do, don’t run out of time.
Escape to a city oasis
It’s no secret that once summer rolls in, Manitoba loves to escape. To the cabin, to the lake, or even on a roadtrip. But guess what? Staying in the city has its own perks. Savour a sunny weekend in the city with rooftop pools, historical sites and gourmet delights. City slickin’ has never looked better. Start planning your itinerary!
Take a culinary tour in the West End
West End, Winnipeg
What’s on the menu for dinner? On this mouth-watering food tour, you’ll head out in the West End of Winnipeg to explore some of Winnipeg’s favourite eateries. Start with Tam’s Pho before heading to Lin Lan Grocery, India Palace and Jonnie’s Sticky Buns. Now that’s a well balanced meal!
Select garden greens for pizza night on the farm
Fridays and Saturdays | 5:00 to 9:00 p.m.
Pizza night is in full swing at Integrity Foods. Embrace the farm life in this serene setting as your garden-fresh pizza bakes in an outdoor brick oven. Farm animals, pets, gardens, forest trails and children’s activities are just a few of the delights waiting for you on this family abode. Plus, who wouldn’t want to have a pizza picnic? Sandwiches are so overrated!
