Take in the last breaths of summer in Manitoba

Fall ushers in the season of cozy knit sweaters, tall leather boots, pumpkin spice lattes and the changing of leaves–personally, it’s the season I look forward to most. Cooler temperatures do mean that summer’s delights must come to an end–at least for a little while. But before you dive head first into fall suppers, theatre-going and corn mazes, we’ve got a few last chances to partake in the rituals of summer well into September and October.

Festival Fun

While summer may be king when it comes to outdoor festivals, the fun doesn’t end yet. This weekend take in Manyfest in downtown Winnipeg where you’ll be treated to a wine and beer festival, food truck wars, farmers’ market, artisan market, light show, live music, outdoor movies, kids’ fun and so much more.

ManyFest Winnipeg

If yoga and nature are your thing, then don’t miss the The Prairie Love Festival at FortWhyte Alive. If you love the thrill of competition then the FMG Manitoba Dragonboat Festival should be on your list. If you want to head into rural Manitoba, then don’t miss the Honey, Garlic & Maple Syrup Festival in Manitou (we feel the title is pretty self-explanatory here) or The Summer Lights Music Festival in Brandon.

Prairie Love Festival

Think we’re done yet? Nope.

designfest

Follow all that up with the Winnipeg Design Festival where art, thought and creativity are celebrated. Then pitch a tent, sign up for a yoga class and relax to the warm sounds of the Harvest Moon Festival. Even the beach is within your grasp during the Winnipeg Beach Harvest Festival where scarecrow making and apple pie contests await.

Family Fun

Even the dinosaurs at Assiniboine Park Zoo know that Winnipeg is the place to be come fall. They’ve extended their stay until October 30, so you still have time to take in their ferocity and life-like movements.

Tinkertown

If you haven’t taken in the twirl and treats at Tinkertown yet this summer, you’ve got one last weekend to do so. Pack up the little ones for a day of pint-sized fun.

It’s all aboard the Prairie Dog Central where a vintage train takes you on a voyage through rural Manitoba where you can partake in snacks, shopping and sightseeing.

Dark Sky Weekend in Riding Mountain National Park

Head up to Riding Mountain and navigate the stars, learn about the solar system and get tips on your night time photography during Dark Sky Weekend. While you’re in the neighbourhood, tune into the sounds of the forest and wildlife with an Acoustical Evening Walk where the wind and trees serenade you.

It’s not too late to get your rush on with some water sports at Adrenaline Adventures. Take in wakeboarding lessons, rope courses and zip lining. Continue the thrills with Hywire Zipline Adventures in Manitou.

And finally, camping need never be only for summer–especially with these parks who have extended their seasons. Pack up the family, grab your friends and head out for one more night around the campfire.

Turning the page on the calendar doesn’t mean the season is quite over yet. While we can’t wait for fall, it’s hard not to try and get in the last moments of summer.
