St. Laurent, MB welcomes the Métis Music Festival, September 4-5 at the Métis Heritage Grounds.

Feature a tribute to country legends and plenty of homegrown Manitoba talent, the Métis Music Festival also features cultural entertainment, rides and special activities for the kids, and of course, lots of dancing!

Enjoy the traditional Métis supper and onsite camping.

Admission is $10 per day and/or $10 per night, with a weekend pass available for $30. Passholders are eligible for special prize draws.

Oak Hammock Marsh Interpretive Centre invites you to explore this important habitat on August 28.

Visit a remnant of Tall-Grass Prairie within our Wildlife Management Area and taste saskatoon jam, rosehip jelly and refreshing iced herbal teas using a selection of prairie flavours.

Floating Festival – The Forks hosts River Barge Festival

From August 25 to 29 the junction of the Red and Assiniboine Rivers at the historic Forks will be the site of a celebration of entertainment and cultural experience, free of charge, for all of Winnipeg.

As part of the Winnipeg Cultural Capital of Canada 2010 campaign, the River Barge Festival will welcome audiences along the river banks as a barge acts as the stage for slate of pan-cultural performances.

The program will change every day to include Aboriginal performances, representation from culturally diverse performing arts groups, the Winnipeg Symphony Orchestra, the Manitoba Theatre Centre, plus other local and national favourites.

Don’t Miss Shakin’ All Over at the Manitoba Museum

This summer’s musical hit is the Manitoba Museum’s multi-media celebration of the many facets/genres of music in the province, Shakin’ All Over.

This temporary exhibit is open only until September 6, so boogie your way over today!

Visitors will see familiar faces, artifacts and hear great music from all genres.

Some of the highlights include the jacket given to Fred Turner for guest-starring in an episode of The Simpsons, Juno awards won by Bachman-Turner Overdrive, Al Simmons’ one-man band and human jukebox, Daniel Lavoie’s piano and a perfectly restored Rockola jukebox.

Plus, the Shakin’ All Over exhibit presents special programming every Saturday, with August 14 dedicated to Franco-Manitoba music presented by Le 100 Nons,  featuring performances by KIN, Amuse, L’Ensemble musical Pierre Freynet and Terre ouverte and August 21 declared as Jazz Day.
